Last Update 2 months ago
When an approver reviews a child’s details, they can choose to approve, ask for changes, or decline the request. A declined request means the details have not been accepted.
If the request was for a new child
If the approver declines a newly added child, the child is removed from the childminder’s account.
This means the child will no longer appear in the Children section and will not become active in the system.
If the request was for updated details
If the approver declines changes made to an existing child record, the safest explanation is that the previously approved version remains in place and the declined update is not applied. That follows the review flow described in the system information.
What the childminder should do next
If a request has been declined, the next step depends on the situation.

What the childminder should do next
If a request has been declined, the next step depends on the situation.
For a new child:
- check whether the child needs to be added again
- confirm the child details and approver information carefully before resubmitting.
For an updated child record:
- review the current details
- make any needed corrections
- submit the update again if appropriate.
Good to know
If the issue was caused by something small, it may be worth checking:
- the approver contact details
- whether the wrong approver was assigned
- whether important information needs clarifying
- whether the approver actually meant to ask for changes instead.
If the approver only needed something updated rather than fully declined, the more suitable review outcome may be Ask for changes.
