I can’t check a child out

To check a child out in LittleLink ID, the child must already be checked in. During checkout, you’ll also be asked who collected the child so the handover can be recorded correctly.

If checkout is not working as expected, there are a few common things to check.

What to check first
Start by checking:
  • whether the child is currently checked in
  • whether you are on the dashboard or Children page
  • whether the collection step has been completed
  • whether the correct collector is available in the child’s contacts
  • whether you need to use the child’s safeword for another collector.

Check whether the child is currently checked in
A child can only be checked out if they have already been checked in. If the child is not currently marked as checked in, the checkout option may not be available.

Check the dashboard or Children page to confirm the child is showing as checked in before trying again.

Make sure you are in the right place
You can check children out from:
  • the dashboard
  • the Children page.

If you are in another part of the platform, you may not see the checkout option.

Check the collection step
During checkout, LittleLink ID asks who collected the child. If this step is not completed, checkout may not finish properly.

If the person collecting the child is already listed as authorised for pickup, select them from the available options and confirm checkout.

If the collector is not listed
If the person collecting the child is not listed as an authorised pickup contact, you can still complete checkout using the child’s safeword.

During checkout:
  1. Click Check Out
  2. Confirm the correct safeword
  3. Enter the name of the person who's collecting the child
  4. Complete the checkout.
If this option is needed often, it may be worth reviewing the child’s contact list and pickup permissions.

Check the child’s contact details
If the collector should already be authorised but is not appearing correctly, open the child’s profile and review their emergency contacts and pickup permissions.

Updating contact details may help avoid delays at future collections.

What happens after successful checkout
Once checkout is completed:
  • the child is no longer shown as checked in
  • they are removed from the public profile
  • their emergency information is no longer shown publicly.

If the child is still visible, refresh the page and confirm that checkout was fully completed.

Good to know
If the issue is not with checkout itself, but with who is collecting the child, the more helpful guide may be:
How collection works, including safewords and other collectors.

If children are being removed later in the evening without manual checkout, that may be related to auto-checkout settings instead.
